Metal shingle and metal tile
Metal shingle and metal tile roof repair and replacement
Metal shingles and metal tile are metal roofs formed to look like shingle or tile from the street, and Molsbee Roofing repairs and replaces them across Palm Beach County. They give a traditional look at a fraction of the weight of concrete tile, which matters on a house that was never framed for tile; stone-coated steel gives a tile or shake look the same way. You'll find original metal shingle on the frame cottages of Old Lucerne and South Palm Park in Lake Worth Beach, and metal shingle systems on homes across West Palm Beach. Like any metal roof, it starts underneath: we tear off, check the wood, lay a high-temperature underlayment made for the heat that builds under metal, then set the panels and the flashing to the Florida Building Code for your wind zone. Family-run since 1975, three generations now. Free inspection, price in writing. The phone is answered 24 hours a day at 561-318-8624.

Metal shingle and tile
A shingle or tile look, on a light metal roof
What these profiles are, what goes under them, and where the rules decide.
What metal shingle and metal tile are
Metal shingles and metal tile are formed panels that read as shingle or tile from the street. They're a fraction of the weight of concrete tile, so they suit a house that was never framed for tile. Metal shingle profiles cost less than standing seam. We price them side by side with standing seam, tile and shingle so you can see the gap.
What goes under the panels
Metal gets hot in a Florida summer, and regular underlayment softens under it and gives out early. We use a high-temperature underlayment made for metal. Before that, we strip the old roof and replace any soft wood. Then the panels, with flashing at every wall, pipe and valley, fastened to the Florida Building Code for your wind zone. We photograph the deck before we cover it.
Historic districts and HOAs
In Lake Worth Beach's historic districts, do not assume standing seam can replace original metal shingle: a City staff report on one Old Lucerne house recommended denial of standing seam over original metal shingle. That was one property, not a blanket rule, so we confirm the material with City preservation staff. Boca Raton's Old Floresta guideline lists metal shingle as not preferred. If your HOA requires tile, that settles it. We check before we price.
Repairs, salt and the coast
A lifted or dented panel, a flashing that has let go at a wall or a rusted pipe collar is a repair. Salt is hard on metal: the closer you live to the ocean, the more the panel finish and the fastener grade matter, and we specify them by how far you sit from the water. If you're east of the Intracoastal, tell us when you call.

Metal shingle and metal tile, explained
Frequently asked questions.
Is a metal shingle roof lighter than tile?
Yes. Metal shingles and metal tile are a fraction of the weight of concrete tile, which matters on a house never framed for tile. Going from shingle to concrete tile means checking the trusses first; metal gives a tile look without that load.
Metal shingle or standing seam?
Standing seam hides every fastener under a locked seam and sits at the upper end of the price. Metal shingle profiles cost less and give a shingle or tile look. In some historic districts the choice may be made for you, so in Lake Worth Beach we confirm with City preservation staff before you pick. We price both for your house.
Are metal shingle roofs good in hurricanes?
When they're installed right. The install matters more than the material: a re-nailed deck, the right underlayment, and panels and edge metal fastened to the Florida Building Code for your wind zone. Palm Beach County sits in the wind-borne debris region, product approvals follow the Florida Building Code, and the inspector checks the work along the way.
Does a metal shingle roof help with the power bill?
A light-colored metal roof with a reflective factory finish throws back heat that a dark shingle roof soaks up, so the attic runs cooler and the air conditioner works less. How much depends on your attic insulation and vents, which we look at during the free inspection.
What does the free inspection check on a metal shingle roof?
A Molsbee roofer walks the roof and photographs the panels, the fasteners, the flashing at walls and pipes, the ridge and the edge metal, and looks for rust on the side facing the water. You get the photos and a written price for a repair or a new roof. The phone is answered 24 hours a day at 561-318-8624.
