Roof types
Roof installation in Palm Beach County since 1975.
Four roof systems cover nearly every home and building between Jupiter and Boca Raton: concrete or clay tile, standing-seam metal, architectural shingle, and the flat and low-slope systems, TPO, modified bitumen and silicone coating, that go on additions, Florida rooms, condos and commercial buildings. Each one is priced differently, lasts a different span, and handles the sun, the salt air and the wind off the water in its own way.
The right one depends on your house, its structure, its slope, what your neighborhood was built with, and what you want to spend now against what you want to spend again in twenty years. We are Molsbee Roofing, a family-run company since 1975, based in Lake Worth Beach and working across Palm Beach County, Jupiter to Boca Raton.
We install all four, and we recommend what is right for your house, not what is easy for us. Free roof inspections.

Tile, metal, shingle and flat roofing for Palm Beach County.
Good to know
What to know.
- Tile: the Palm Beach County classic
Concrete or clay, flat, S-profile or barrel. The longest-lasting roof we install and the one most neighborhoods here were built with. Heavy, slower to install, and priced at the top end. The underlayment beneath the tile is what fails, not the tile, and it is where the money in a tile re-roof goes. Concrete versus clay is the choice that decides most tile jobs.
- Metal: built for the wind off the water
Standing-seam metal with every fastener hidden. Lighter than tile, sheds water instantly, runs cooler than shingle and handles coastal wind as well as anything we install. Costs about what tile does. The work starts under the panels with a high-temperature underlayment rated for the heat metal builds up.
- Shingle: the affordable full roof
Architectural shingle, never three-tab. The least expensive full roof and what many families choose. Lasts a couple of decades in the Florida sun, less without attic ventilation. Done right it is a system: re-nailed deck, self-adhered underlayment, drip edge, flashing, ridge vent, then the shingles, each a line on the written price.
- Flat and low-slope: their own system
Florida rooms, additions, garage tie-ins, condos and commercial buildings. TPO single-ply for most, modified bitumen where the roof gets walked on, silicone coating to extend a sound roof without a tear-off. Flat roofs fail at drainage and seams, so those are where a proper install spends its attention.

Roofing questions
Frequently asked questions.
Which roof material suits a Florida home?
There is no single answer, which is why we install all four. Tile and metal last the longest and handle wind; shingle costs the least; flat sections need their own system. The install matters more than the material: deck nailing, underlayment and flashing are what hold in a storm. We price the options side by side for your house.
Tile vs shingle vs metal: how do the costs compare?
Shingle is the least expensive full roof. Tile and metal cost more up front, about the same as each other, and last far longer. The rest of the price is the roof's size and pitch, tear-off layers and the wood underneath. The free inspection gets you the itemized number for your house.
Which roof lasts the longest in Palm Beach County?
Tile and standing-seam metal, both measured in decades. Tile's weak point is the underlayment beneath it; metal's is exposed fasteners, which standing seam avoids. Shingle gives a couple of decades. Flat systems depend on drainage and seams and on a maintenance walk after storm season.
Can I switch from tile to metal or shingle?
Often, yes. Tile is the heaviest, so a structure built for tile can carry metal or shingle. Going the other way, from shingle to tile, needs an engineer to confirm the structure. Many communities also have rules on roof look and color, so check with your association first. We walk it with you at the free roof inspection.
How do I know which roof my house should have?
Call 561-318-8624, phone answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A Molsbee roofer walks the roof, photographs what is there, looks at the structure and the attic, and prices the options that fit your house side by side, in writing. The inspection is free and the answer is straight: if the roof is fine, we say so.
