Jupiter · Storm damage roof repair
Roofing in Jupiter since 1975.
Jupiter sits at the exposed end of the county. Weather coming off the Atlantic reaches Ridge at the Bluffs and the streets near the inlet having crossed open water, and it hits roofs that are relatively young but pointed straight at it.
That combination produces a particular kind of storm call. The tile is usually sound and the fixings are not.
Ridge and hip caps come away in runs, trim lifts along a rake, and a slope that has been quietly losing fasteners to salt for years gives up several tiles in one evening. Further inland at Egret Landing, Newhaven and the Abacoa neighbourhoods the exposure drops and the story changes to what the wind carries rather than what it pushes, with damage clustering where something struck rather than where the wind pressed hardest.
Whichever version you have, the sequence afterwards is the same and it is not negotiable. Water is stopped first with a tarp anchored to points that will still be there in the next squall.
The structure is then allowed the days it needs to dry out. Only then is the lasting repair made, onto dry timber, because a covering closed over damp sheathing conceals the decay rather than ending it.
Before we get to you, photograph what can be seen safely from the ground, and do it before the garden is tidied. Where you are behind a gate at Admirals Cove or Loxahatchee Club at Maplewood we lodge credentials and access details in advance, because the week after a storm is the worst possible time to be discovering a registration requirement.

Good to know
What to know.
- On the coast it is the fixings that fail
A tile roof near the inlet rarely loses tile because the tile was weak. It loses tile because the fastener or the bedding holding it had been corroding in salt air for years and the storm simply found it. That is why we look at the hardware across the whole slope after a blow rather than only at the gap you can see: where one fixing has gone, its neighbours are the same age and the same distance from going, and replacing one tile solves one evening.
- Impact damage inland
Away from the water the wind arrives broken up and the harm comes from what it throws. A limb landing on tile cracks the piece it strikes and passes the rest of the force into the layer beneath, which can be split or punctured with nothing showing once a replacement tile is dropped in. Anywhere something landed, the surrounding tiles come up, the membrane is examined and photographed, and it is repaired if it has been breached.
- A tarp is a clock, not a cure
Its only function is to hold off the next shower so the timber underneath can give up the water it has taken on, which it cannot do once a finished covering is back over it. Roofers who compress that wait to look responsive deliver repairs that fail quietly the following year with the fault sealed out of sight. Anchoring is the whole skill: a tarp fixed to the wrong points becomes a sail in the next gust and takes tile with it.
- Where you stand in the queue
County-wide weather puts every roof into the same hour, and any firm arrival date offered in that hour is invention. Our phone is answered overnight. Jobs are ordered by how fast water is entering a building rather than by who rang first, and we say plainly where that leaves you. Gate registrations are handled in parallel so that when your turn comes nobody is waiting at a barrier.

Most storm repairs are a short visit: tiles reset, caps re-bedded, a boot or a run of flashing replaced. A roof the wind opened across a whole slope is a different job, and the photos say which.

Only a few tiles came off. Is that a small job?
It might be, and near the water it often is not. Tiles that come away in a blow usually come away because the fixings or bedding holding them had already been weakened by salt, and the fixings on the rest of that slope are the same age. So the honest answer starts with checking the neighbouring rows rather than only refilling the gap. If the surrounding fixings are sound, it is a genuinely small repair, and we will tell you that and price it as one.
How do I tell whether the wind did any damage?
From the ground, look for tile in the garden, a bare run along a ridge, trim standing proud, and anything resting on a lanai or terrace roof. Indoors, look for a fresh ceiling mark and check cupboards for a damp smell. Near the inlet, also look for metal that has lifted or dulled. If any of it applies, the next step is somebody on the roof, because on these houses the fixings and the membrane both fail out of sight.
Should I put a tarp on before you arrive?
Not by climbing up. Wet tile is dangerous, and a tile already loosened will move again under your weight. Do the useful things indoors: move what you can from under the drip, put something down to catch water, and take your photographs. Getting a tarp to hold is mainly a matter of picking anchor points that will survive the next gust, and that judgement is very hard to make from a ladder in the conditions that follow a storm.
How quickly can the permanent repair be done?
Once the timber is dry, and after county-wide weather, once the queue reaches you. We do not give arrival dates we cannot keep. We get the tarp on so nothing more gets in, tell you where you honestly stand and keep you informed. Closing a repair over wet sheathing in order to appear fast is the commonest reason storm work fails a season later, and it turns one repair into two.
