3. And the drip edge and rake trim go on in a grade that will still be there in ten years.

Wind gets under a covering at a rake, an eave or a ridge before it gets under anything in the middle of a slope. Here the edge metal has salt working on it continuously, so a thinned run of drip edge beside a lifted first course is the thing that decides what the next storm takes.
